Last updated: 26 August 2026. Version 1.0.

These are the terms on which I sell to you. Please read them before ordering. Nothing here takes away the rights you have as a consumer under UK law. Where anything in these terms conflicts with those rights, your legal rights win.

1. Who I am

  • Trading name: Second Life Vault
  • Trader: Stephanie Gola, sole trader
  • Trading and returns address: 121 Waltersgreen Crescent, Golborne, WA3 3WA, United Kingdom
  • Email: hello@secondlifevault.co.uk
  • Website: secondlifevault.co.uk

In these terms, “I”, “me” and “my” mean Second Life Vault. “You” and “your” mean the person placing the order.

2. Who can order

You must be at least 18 and ordering as a consumer rather than for a business. I deliver to addresses in the United Kingdom only. If you are buying for business purposes, some of the protections described below, in particular the right to cancel in section 8, do not apply to you.

3. The nature of what I sell

Almost everything I sell is second-hand. Each piece is a single item, so once it is sold it cannot be reordered or replaced with an identical one. This matters for several reasons and I want to be straightforward about all of them.

Condition grading

Every listing carries one of three grades:

  • New with tags. Unworn, with the original tags still attached.
  • Very good. Used, but with no flaws that I could find.
  • Good. There are flaws. They will be described in the listing and photographed close up. If you can see it in the photographs and read it in the description, it is not a fault when it arrives.

Grading is my honest assessment after inspecting each piece. It is a judgement, not a laboratory measurement. If something arrives in a materially worse condition than the grade and the photographs suggested, that is a misdescription and section 9 applies.

Sizing and measurements

Labelled sizes are unreliable on second-hand clothing, because sizing has changed over the years and garments shrink and stretch with wear. I therefore measure each piece flat and put those measurements in the listing. Please compare them against something you already own that fits. Measurements are taken by hand and may vary by a centimetre or so. A garment that matches its stated measurements but does not suit you is not a fault, though you can still cancel under section 8.

Photographs and colour

All photographs are my own and are taken in natural light without filters or colour correction. Screens vary, so a colour may look slightly different in person. I describe colours in words as well for that reason.

Where items come from, and my home

Pieces are sourced from car boot sales, charity shops and private sellers. Everything is checked, washed or steamed and inspected before it is listed. My home is smoke-free, but there are three cats in it. Everything is steamed and packed carefully, but if you have a serious cat allergy you should take that into account before ordering.

4. Prices

Prices are in pounds sterling and include VAT where it applies. The price shown on the product page at the time you order is the price you pay. Postage is calculated at checkout based on the size and weight of your order and is shown before you commit.

I take care with pricing, but with a large number of one-off listings mistakes are possible. If an item is obviously mispriced and the error could reasonably have been recognised as an error, I may contact you before dispatch to ask whether you wish to continue at the correct price or cancel for a full refund. I will not simply charge you the higher amount. If I have already dispatched an item at a mistaken price, that is my loss and I will honour it.

5. How a contract is formed

Placing an order is an offer to buy. It is not accepted straight away. The order confirmation email you receive immediately afterwards acknowledges that I have your order, but does not create a contract.

A contract is formed only when I send you a dispatch confirmation. Until that point I may decline the order, for example if the item has sold elsewhere and stock has not yet caught up, if I cannot deliver to your address, if payment is refused, or if I suspect fraud. If I decline, I will tell you and refund anything you have paid in full.

6. Payment

Payment is taken at checkout through my payment provider. Card details are entered into their secure fields and are never seen or stored by me. If your payment is declined I cannot dispatch the order. Any refund is made to the original payment method.

7. Delivery

  • Where. United Kingdom addresses only.
  • Dispatch. Within 48 hours of your order being confirmed, and usually the next day. That means two working days, so an order placed late on a Friday goes out on Monday or Tuesday.
  • Carriers. Evri or InPost, tracked. You will receive tracking details when the parcel is collected.
  • Time limit. Unless we have agreed otherwise, I will deliver within 30 days of the contract being formed, as required by the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

If delivery is delayed by something outside my control, I will let you know and do what I reasonably can to limit the delay. I am not liable for delays caused that way, but if the delay is substantial you may cancel and receive a full refund.

If I miss the 30 day limit, or a delivery date we agreed was essential, you may treat the contract as at an end and get a full refund. Otherwise you may set a new reasonable deadline, and cancel with a full refund if I miss that too.

Goods are my responsibility until they are delivered to the address you gave, at which point responsibility passes to you. If you ask the courier to leave a parcel in a safe place or with a neighbour, responsibility passes at that point, so please choose somewhere genuinely safe.

If nobody is available and the parcel is returned to me as undelivered, I will contact you. I can resend it, in which case I will ask you to cover the second lot of postage, or refund the item price. Please make sure the delivery address is correct before you order, because I cannot redirect a parcel once it is with the courier.

8. Your right to cancel

Because you are buying at a distance, the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 give you the right to change your mind. You do not need a reason.

  • You have 14 days from the day you receive the goods to tell me you are cancelling. If your order arrives in several parcels, the 14 days run from the day you receive the last one.
  • You then have a further 14 days from telling me to send the goods back.
  • Tell me by email at returns@secondlifevault.co.uk, or by using the cancellation form in section 14. Any clear statement is enough, but please do it in writing so we both have a record.

Refunds after cancelling

I will refund the price of the goods plus the standard outbound postage you paid, within 14 days of receiving the goods back, or within 14 days of you providing proof of postage if that is sooner. Refunds go to the original payment method. If you chose a more expensive delivery option than my standard one, I refund the standard cost rather than the upgrade.

The cost of returning the goods is yours to bear, unless the item is faulty or was not as described, in which case see section 9. I recommend a tracked service, because until the parcel reaches me it remains your responsibility.

You may handle and inspect the goods as you would in a shop. Trying a garment on is fine. If you go beyond that and the value of the goods is reduced as a result, for example by wearing an item out, washing it, removing tags, or damaging it, I may deduct an amount from your refund reflecting that reduction. I will explain any deduction rather than simply applying one.

9. Faulty or misdescribed goods

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 the goods I supply must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality. For second-hand clothing, satisfactory quality is judged against the description and grade given, so a flaw I photographed and described is not a fault. Anything I missed is.

  • Within 30 days of receiving faulty or misdescribed goods, you have the short-term right to reject them for a full refund.
  • Up to six months, you can ask for a repair or replacement. Because items are one-offs a replacement is usually impossible, so I will normally offer a full refund instead. If a fault appears in this period it is presumed to have been there at delivery unless I can show otherwise.
  • After six months and up to six years in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, or five years in Scotland, you may still have a claim, though you may need to show the fault was present at delivery.

If an item is faulty or not as described, I pay the return postage. Email me first with a photograph of the problem and I will tell you how to send it back and reimburse the cost. These rights sit alongside your right to cancel in section 8, and you can rely on whichever suits you.

10. How to return something

  1. Email returns@secondlifevault.co.uk with your order number and say whether you are cancelling or reporting a fault.
  2. Pack the item securely, ideally in the packaging it arrived in, with tags still attached if they were on.
  3. Send it to: Second Life Vault, 121 Waltersgreen Crescent, Golborne, WA3 3WA.
  4. Keep your proof of postage. You will need it if the parcel goes missing.
  5. I will confirm when it arrives and process the refund within the time limits above.

Full detail is in my returns policy.

11. Accounts and acceptable use

If you create an account, keep your password to yourself and tell me if you think someone else has it. I may suspend or close an account that is being used fraudulently or abusively.

Please do not misuse the site: no attempting to gain unauthorised access, no introducing malicious code, no automated scraping of listings or photographs, and no using the site in a way that disrupts it for others.

12. Photographs and content

The photographs, descriptions, logo and written content on this site are mine and are protected by copyright. You may not copy or reuse them commercially, including relisting my photographs on another marketplace, without my permission. Brand names and trade marks belong to their respective owners and are used only to describe the item for sale. I am not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to any of those brands.

13. My responsibility to you

If I fail to comply with these terms, I am responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of that failure. I am not responsible for loss or damage that is not foreseeable, meaning it was not obvious at the time and neither of us had it in mind.

I do not exclude or limit my liability in any way where it would be unlawful to do so. That includes liability for death or personal injury caused by my negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, and for breach of your legal rights in relation to the goods.

I am not liable for business losses. If you use the goods for any commercial or resale purpose, I will have no liability to you for loss of profit, loss of business, business interruption or loss of business opportunity.

14. Model cancellation form

You do not have to use this form, but the law requires me to make it available. Complete and return it only if you wish to cancel the contract.

To: Second Life Vault, Stephanie Gola, 121 Waltersgreen Crescent, Golborne, WA3 3WA. Email: returns@secondlifevault.co.uk

I hereby give notice that I cancel my contract of sale of the following goods:

Ordered on / received on: ____________________

Order number: ____________________

Name of consumer: ____________________

Address of consumer: ____________________

Signature of consumer (only if this form is notified on paper): ____________________

Date: ____________________

15. Complaints and disputes

If something has gone wrong, email help@secondlifevault.co.uk and tell me what happened. I answer everything myself and will acknowledge within a few days and try to resolve it within 14 days. Most problems turn out to be straightforward.

If we cannot agree, you can get free independent advice from Citizens Advice on 0808 223 1133 or at citizensadvice.org.uk, and you retain the right to take the matter to court.

16. Events outside my control

I am not liable for failing to perform, or for delay in performing, where the cause is outside my reasonable control. That includes severe weather, postal and courier strikes, power or network failures, fire, flood and acts of government. If such an event occurs I will contact you as soon as possible, and if it goes on for a long time either of us may cancel the affected order for a full refund.

17. General

  • Changes. I may change these terms from time to time. The version that applies to your order is the one published when you placed it, so a later change cannot be applied to a purchase you have already made.
  • Transfer. I may transfer my rights and obligations under these terms to another business, and will tell you if that happens. Your rights will not be affected. You may only transfer your rights to someone else if I agree in writing.
  • Severability. If any part of these terms is found to be unlawful, the rest continue to apply.
  • No waiver. If I do not insist on something straight away, or delay in taking action, that does not prevent me doing so later.
  • Third parties. This contract is between you and me. Nobody else has the right to enforce any of its terms.
  • Governing law. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any dispute may be brought in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may also bring proceedings in your own courts.
